Buzzed Book Review
Holden Caulfield is a young teenager who’s been through an extremely traumatic experience, and is understandably suffering. While the author, J.D. Salinger, writes this so well it’s basically a photograph, he doesn’t provide any context, such as another character’s point of view or descriptions of Holden before/after the trauma. Since Holden feels superior and righteous, his unhealthy and derogatory thought patterns could be reinforced or glorified in readers, and we shouldn’t be giving the book the attention it gets (i.e. being read in schools by young readers) without providing more context than it gives on its own.
